It's easy to assume that jumping rope has become a thing of the past, but maybe you're just not going to the right place.
If jumping rope somehow went out of style, the kids at Lake Park Elementary School in Hendersonville never got the message. They've turned it into a team sport with kicks and tricks and are now receiving invitations to be the entertainment at national events.
At Lake Park, skipping class really means skipping class.
Students from first to sixth grade have jump rope team training four days a week.
"Practice. It's the only way you can learn to do these really hard tricks is with practice," said Ryan Evans, 9.
This isn't double Dutch dull. Here, tricks are for kids in a mix of fearless youth, flexibility and free time.
They're now all entertainers, performing at high schools, colleges and sporting events.
The Lake Park Elementary kids are so good with the jump rope they've been invited to perform twice this weekend at the women's college basketball Final Four tournament at Bridgestone Arena.
