CAUGHT ON TAPE: Woman punches dog at Colonial Heights shelter

The Colonial Heights Animal Shelter is looking for a woman they believe punched a dog while dropping off animals Sunday.

The shelter says the woman dropped off five fish tanks full of fish, then punched a dog in her SUV. The incident was captured on surveillance video.

"In this video, it is apparent that this woman struck the dog with some force and we would like to check on the welfare of this dog to make sure it is safe and well cared for," said Sgt. Rob Ruxer with the Colonial Heights Police Department.

The shelter describes the vehicle as a newer model Ford Explorer silver or gray in color. The person appears to a black female 25 to 35-years-ol with hair in braids.

The dog in the video is a German Shepherd. Please contact us if by calling (804) 520-9397, if you can help identify the person.

The woman in the video could face charges for trespassing, littering, and animal cruelty.
