COOKEVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The man accused of killing the great-niece of Johnny Cash will be making his preliminary appearance in court Wednesday morning.

Putnam County officials say Wayne Masciarella attacked Courtney Cash and her boyfriend, William Johnson, inside the couple's home in March.

Johnson, who was stabbed several times, was able to grab their 20-month-old daughter and run outside.

Authorities found Cash's body in a box inside her home on Rice Road on March 19.

Masciarella's attorney will be asking a judge to ban media from the courtroom during some of his hearings. He says the link between Johnny Cash and the victim could influence the case.

The motion is expected to be heard at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
