Crime Stoppers: Highland Park Home Burglary

Posted: Updated:

This week's crime happened on a balmy evening in historic Highland Park. It was around a quarter `til 9:00, not quite completely dark, yet, as daylight saving time had begun the prior Sunday.

Surveillance video shows two guys. They park their car and we watch as they strike from the alley. Motion sensors turn on the flood lights at the Bailey Avenue home as they stroll up and hop the fence. One stands sentinel while the other looks for a way inside.

Though the color in the security camera footage is not the best, investigators believe we are watching two black males. One kicks his way through the back door. The operation takes just a few minutes.

What were they after? You can see it under his arm as he scampers down back the steps. The damage to the house, the invasion of the owner's privacy, the theft of their property, appears to all have been for a television; not a big one, either.

Surveillance cameras cannot deter all burglaries, but, thanks to this homeowner's set-up, we may be able to make these guys pay for their lawlessness.

Have a look at the video and the still pulled from the footage. Think about the people you may have come in contact with over the past few weeks. If you can help connect us to either or both of these crooks, up to $1,000 reward cash is waiting.

Call Crime Stoppers: 698-3333

A police officer may answer the phone or return your call, but he will never ask your identity.
