Arrest made in Bedford Co. fatal hit and run

BEDFORD - Update 3:45 p.m.

Michael Jenkins, 26, has also been charged with being intoxicated in public, felony assault on a firefighter and maliciously throwing missiles at an occupied vehicle.

On Friday night at 10:20 p.m., Bedford Co. Fire and Rescue units responded to Jenkins' house and found a pick-up truck on fire.

As firefighters were attempting to put out the fire in the driveway, the Bedford Co. Sheriff's Office says Jenkins started pushing them away and throwing objects at their vehicles.

He was taken to the Bedford Adult Detention Center of the Blue Ridge Regional Jail.

Bedford County fire investigators are investigating the truck fire as a possible arson.

State Police have arrested a man for a hit and run in Bedford County.

Sean M. McQuaid, 53, of  Florida was riding on Route 122 when police say he was hit by Michael Wayne Jenkins. Jenkins, 26 of Bedford, left the scene. He was arrested early Monday morning at his residence. Jenkins has been charged with Felony hit and run.  He's at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, with no bond.
