Experimental drug saves child at St. Jude Research Hospital

Posted: Updated:

An experimental drug may have saved the life of a young boy at Saint Jude Research Hospital who is battling a deadly virus.

Seven-year-old Josh Hardy was hospitalized with a virus after receiving a bone marrow transplant, and doctors couldn't find a cure.

After a fight that made national headlines, Josh was given an experimental dose of the drug last week.

Now, doctors say he could be out of the ICU as early as next week.

Doctors don't know if Josh will have any permanent damage from the virus. They're hoping his kidneys and lungs will heal on their own.

Doctors at St. Jude will perform more tests on Tuesday to see if the virus is completely gone.
