PORTLAND, TN (WSMV) -

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the two people who died early Thursday in a crash on Lake Springs Road in Sumner County.

A semi had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 31W in Portland when a 2013 Chevrolet sedan slammed into the rear of the trailer, the THP said.

Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling at about 80 mph at the time of the collision.

The driver of the car, 21-year-old Conner Edwards, of Auburn, KY, and a passenger, 22-year-old Cody Yell, of Adairville, KY, were killed.

Another passenger in the car, 21-year-old Alexander Reed, of Auburn, was injured.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

THP investigators believe all three men in the Chevrolet had been drinking prior to the crash.
