Help on the way for homeless camp

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A group of homeless people living near the Santa Cruz River, along Silverbell near Camino Del Cerro were told they had 24 hours to clear out of the only home they have.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department arrived on Tuesday night after receiving a call from the owner of the property the camp is located on.  PCSD deputies told a group of 30 people that they had 24 hours to clear out of the area.

This morning one group is offering help to those getting kicked out.  Old Pueblo Community Services arrived at 6 a.m. this morning and is going from camp to camp to find out what they can do to help the groups relocate.

A small group of ten people left the camp last night, but several others do not want to leave.

One woman, Kathy Blevins, has lived in the camp for two years and is one of those who is having a difficult time leaving.

Blevins said many of the people in the camp have accumulated a lot of stuff, are handicapped and that 24 hours is not enough time to find a new place to go.  She also says that many like her, just do not want to leave.

"As I tell people, I'm not homeless, because I have a home here.  I am housing impaired," said Blevins.
