A Middle Tennessee veteran and his family will soon be settling into their new home. Sean Davis, a retired U.S. Army specialist, and his wife, Samantha, received the keys Tuesday in Goodlettsville.
Davis, a Gallatin native, served in the military seven years and was deployed to Afghanistan three times. Davis broke his collarbone while stationed in Italy. When doctors couldn't fix it, Davis was medically discharged.
He and his wife applied for a home through Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit that provides financial assistance to military families and wounded warriors.
"Out of the hundreds of applicants, we got it and it's everything we need," Davis said.
Even more exciting for the parents, they never have to pay a mortgage.
"Our criteria is different than a lot of organizations that do this. We are so thankful to people who serve our nation. It's not just [Operation Enduring Freedom], we have Korean veterans who have our houses," said Andrea Kapehart, housing caseworker with Operation Homefront.
The donated home is a foreclosure with nearly 2,500 square feet, including three bedrooms, two bathrooms and detached garage.
The Davis' have two daughters, and the youngest was just born in January. So the extra room came just in time.
"We even have room for another child if we decide. This house is big and beautiful. It's amazing," Samantha Davis said.
Wells Fargo donated 86 properties to United States troops last year.
