Many grow weary of sleet and snow as another wintry system sets in

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

An afternoon of rain quickly turned into an evening of sleet, making for dangerous driving conditions.

"It made me very nervous," said Latrina Blakemore. "I was going about 20 to 30 miles per hour coming from Clarksville. ... It was pretty bad out there," she added.

At times, several lanes seemed to merge into one as the lines disappeared under a blanket of ice. "It was a couple of slick spots; the roads were covered," said Blakemore.

TDOT has crews have been monitoring the interstates. TDOT spokeswoman Deanna Lambert says there is no shortage of supplies. They just received another shipment of salt a couple of weeks ago and crews are treating roads wherever needed.

That wasn't the case at one Lowe's home improvement store in Clarksville. They sold out of salt and had to order more. "We have gone through several pallets of salt already," said assistant store manager Holly Seay. "We're anticipating another shipment soon."

Ironically, the store is now selling outdoor grills for spring, alongside snow shovels and heaters. "That's just Tennessee for you," Seay said. "It may be lawnmowers one day and ice melt the next," she added. Several customers have purchased heaters, generators and kerosene to stay warm.

TDOT asks drivers to stay off the roads Sunday night through Monday morning as ice accumulates on the roads.
