TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

Phoenix police have released the identity of a driver suspected of making an inappropriate U-turn that led to a collision.

Sgt. Steve Martos says 24-year-old Jose Manriquez-Gomez died at a hospital from injuries suffered when he collided with another driver.

Martos says Manriquez-Gomez was driving a Nissan Sentra southbound on 43rd Avenue near Bell Road around midnight Saturday when he turned the vehicle around from the outside curb lane.

Authorities say he came into the direct path of a Hyundai Santa Fe going southbound in the inside lane.

Martos says a 16-year-old and 18-year-old riding with Manriquez-Gomez suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The 19-year-old driver of the Hyundai was treated for minor injuries.

Police say impairment doesn't appear to be a factor in the accident.
