Officer-involved shooting near Broadway and Craycroft
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
A man died after an officer-involved shooting near Broadway and Craycroft Saturday, according to Sgt. Pete Dugan of the Tucson Police Department.
Officers first received a 911 call at 9:11 a.m. from the Chase Bank at Broadway and Wilmot. A man was attempting to rob the bank, armed with a gun.
He fled the location on a bike with an undisclosed amount of money. When police arrived, a bystander pointed the man out to the officers.
They pursued the man, but then lost him in the neighborhood. They received a second call from a man on the 5600 block of E 9th Street who reported a bike in his front lawn. He told officers there was a man in his backyard.
Police arrived and several shots where fired. No officers were injured. The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries; he later died. Police have not yet released the man's name.
A police homicide unit is investigating the scene.
