Nashville gang member sentenced to life in prison

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Nashville drug trafficker with multiple previous drug convictions has been sentenced to life in prison for cooking crack cocaine near an elementary school and for federal firearms violations.

Federal prosecutors said on Friday that 30-year-old Christopher Ray Moody was a member of the 98 Mafia Crip street gang who used his residence near a Nashville elementary school to cook crack cocaine that would be later sold on the streets. Moody was convicted in November of eight charges involving drugs and firearms.

U.S. Attorney David Rivera said that Moody had continued to deal drugs after bailing out of jail when he was arrested on state charges.

Rivera said in a statement that many of Moody's drug crimes were committed around schools and public housing.
