WWII veteran receives medals after decades-long oversight

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

In a Nashville ceremony, a World War II veteran finally received the honors he deserves.

Henry Shaw enlisted in the Army more than 71 years ago, serving in support of Allied Forces during the D-Day invasion of France and operations surrounding Bastogne, Belgium.

Shaw earned two military awards, but they were never formally presented.

He contacted a veterans' assistance organization about the oversight, and they helped clear up the matter.

This week, officials at the National Guard headquarters in Nashville pinned the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars and the World War II Victory Medal on Shaw.
