Firefighters from several agencies were called to a fully involved fire at a Rutherford County concrete facility on Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 4:30 p.m. at Smyrna Ready Mix in the 4500 block of Hickory Grove Road.

The plant manager said five people were inside a mechanics' shop and office area when they spotted the fire. They attempted to put out the fire themselves, but it got out of control very quickly, forcing them to evacuate.

There was trouble getting water to the scene, hindering the firefighting process.

Mutual aid was called from fire crews in Wilson County to help get the fire under control, and the fire was extinguished by about 6 p.m.

There are no reports of any injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown.
