NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey's weekly news conferences usually cover political topics, but this week, he opened up about his grandson's recent battle with cancer.

"I hope nobody ever has to go through that, but, at the same time, God does everything for a reason. He'll be stronger," Ramsey said.

Back in July, at just 8 months old, Ramsey's grandson, Briggs, was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

His parents took him to a children's hospital in Johnson City that is an affiliate of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"He went through three rounds of chemo, every two weeks. It was rough. Oh, baby. That's no fun watching your little grandson sitting there throwing up," Ramsey said.

But after months of fighting and praying, now at 14 months old, Briggs is finally cancer free.

Ramsey said he and his family are determined to spread the word about St. Jude's and its affiliate in Johnson City.
