Investigators say the deaths of an elderly couple in Mt. Juliet have been ruled a murder-suicide.
Betty Wilburn, 80, and Hubert Wilburn, 77, were found dead inside their home on the 1000 block of Weston Drive on Tuesday morning.
According to detectives, Hubert Wilburn shot his wife. Police say Betty Wilburn died of a single gunshot wound and that Hubert Wilburn died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A neighbor said he spoke with Hubert Wilburn on Monday and said he believed the couple was struggling with health issues.
"Health problems and family issues just had him depressed and couldn't take it any more, I guess," Louis Barbeau said previously.
Barbeau had volunteered to take the Wilburns to a doctor's appointment Tuesday afternoon. He said he got a call Tuesday morning from the couple's son, who was concerned his parents weren't answering their phone.
