COLUMBIA, TN (WSMV) -

Workers at a Middle Tennessee animal shelter are looking for the person who they say threw a kitten from a moving car.

Workers at Eva's Eden in Columbia received a call for help after someone driving down Highway 31 allegedly threw a kitten from a car.

Several people stopped, including one person who got the kitten and took him to animal control.

Workers said it appears the kitten had suffered abuse for some time.

A veterinarian had to clip part the kitten's tail due to previous injuries and infection.

Despite all he's been through, volunteers at the shelter said the kitten is very affectionate and eager for attention.

"When someone intentionally harms a defenseless little guy like this, it's very angering," said Nicole Walker of Eva's Eden. "Somebody who can maliciously and intentionally do something like this, you don't know what else they're capable of doing."

"To do something like this is to intentionally inflict pain on a life that could not do anything back to you," added Louis Lembo of the Veterinary Wellness Clinic of Columbia.

Walker added, five people have already shown interest in adopting the kitten while $500 in donations were raised for him by Tuesday morning.

The kitten does not have a name just yet. Eva's Eden workers are considering letting people give suggestions for a contest to give the name.
