FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

A Coconino County man has been sentenced to 46 years in prison for the child abuse death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.

Jose Zenaido Acevedo, 26, of Valle, was sentenced to two consecutive 23-year sentences by Superior Court Judge Dan Slayton stemming from the October 2012 death of 2-year-old Victoria Rodriguez. Sheriff's deputies found the girl unconscious when they arrived at the mother's home.

Acevedo was living in the child's home with her mother and was watching the child while the mother was at work. The Williams Police Department received one 911 call reporting an unresponsive child, and the mother made a second 911 call after arriving home.

The coroner determined the girl died from abusive head trauma.

Acevedo was convicted of second-degree murder and child abuse. He was sentenced Wednesday.
