Report: AZ job growth ranked 2nd for 2014

Posted: Updated:

It's been a rough few years for families across the state.

But it looks like things will get a lot better in 2014.

A new report by Moody's Analytics predicts that Arizona will be one of the national leaders in job growth this year.

Job growth is expected to climb more than three percent, creating more than 77,000 new jobs in  Arizona.

Glenn Hamer is president of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce.

He said the positive job news is not limited to just one sector of the economy.

"We're seeing construction jobs are up, manufacturing jobs, technology jobs, healthcare, service jobs," said Hamer. "This is a recovery of all the different sectors of Arizona's economy."

Leading the way is the boost Arizona is getting from the high-tech industry.

Apple is opening a new plant in Mesa and plans to hire 2,000 workers.

Intel is completing a $5 billion expansion project in Chandler that will add 1,000 jobs.

The Internet company Go-Daddy has broken ground on a new technology center in Tempe, and will create 300 jobs.

Hamer said that Arizona still has a way to go to replace the 300,000 jobs lost during the recession, but the future looks brighter than ever.

"The next year and a half we should be back to where we were before the great recession," Hamer said. "It's not just companies across the country, it's companies across the world that recognize that Arizona is open for business."
