Metro police: Victim claims self-defense in morning shooting

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro detectives are continuing to investigate a West Nashville woman's report that she fatally wounded her boyfriend in self-defense during an overnight domestic-related fight inside their River Road apartment.

Anderous Reid, 39, was shot at approximately 3:30 a.m. by Jessica Cothon, 29.

Police say, also home at the time of the shooting were the couple's two young children, Cothon's 11-year-old daughter, and Cothon's mother.

Metro counselors were called in to assist the children.

Police say Cothon is being fully cooperative with detectives and said that Reid was physically attacking her in a bedroom when she retrieved her pistol and fired.

She told police Reid was hit in the midsection and died at the scene.

Metro Police tells WSMV that Reid has a history of domestic assault cases against Cothon.

Police say Cothon is not facing any charges at this time, the District Attorney's Office will review the case.
