After home was burglarized, community reaches out to help

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

We told you of a family who found themselves in a real life Grinch type situation after burglars robbed them of all their Christmas presents, and left the rest of the home in tatters.

We revisited the family after the community stepped in to give five deserving children a Christmas.

Karrina Kitchens told her children to not expect much this year, after every present she bought was taken and the only thing left was their tree.

But when her kids wake up on Christmas morning, they will now have plenty to open.

"I would like to say thank you to everyone," said Kitchens.

It was an outpour of love that Kitchens and her family weren't expecting.

"I can't tell you how good it feels," said Kitchens.

When the community stepped in and gave back to one family, who had it all taken away just days before Christmas.

"The love that you can't even imagine, feeling from a complete stranger. It's overwhelming," said Kitchens. "I'm used to helping instead of being helped and now being on the other side, it's a different feeling. But it's a great feeling to know others care."

"It feels like someone has my back and someone is there for you, even a complete stranger," said Valerie Paris.

Now Kitchen's five children won't go without this year.

"We wouldn't have been able to replace and it's coming together," said Kitchens. "I think from the calls, we may see three fold," said Kitchens.

And she will see nothing but smiles on her kids faces.

"They would have smiled any ways, but now they have more of a reason to smile," said Kitchens.

Kitchens tells Channel 3 whatever they aren't able to use, they plan to donate to help other families.

Her daughter, Valerie says she hopes to donate the gifts she receives next year to kids who are less fortunate.
