AUBURN, AL (RNN) - A strong first half finish and superior shooting helped Auburn defeat Boston College 77-67 on Sunday.

The Tigers (6-3) and the Eagles (4-8) went back and forth on the lead a few times in the first half before Auburn started to pull away, leading 37-24 at halftime. The Tigers greatly increased their lead by opening the second half with seven unanswered points. Boston College closed the deficit to eight points with four minutes left, but Auburn held the lead in the final minutes with the aid of free throws.

Auburn led Boston College in shooting, making 25 out of 52 field goals, 10 out of 22 3-pointers and 17 out of 22 free throws.

Auburn's KT Harrell scored 29 points, a career high, and Chris Denson led with four assists and two steals.

The Tigers get more than a week to rest before hosting Arkansas Pine Bluff on Monday, Dec. 30.
