City of Tucson 911 Center no longer having caller issues

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The City of Tucson 9-1-1 Center is no longer experiencing any issues with incoming cell phone calls.

According to Capt. Chris Jurvig with Tucson Fire, the wireless network provider has remedied their issue and after two hours of testing, all is working well. 

Communications officials will continue to monitor and ensure all components of the 911 system remain fully operational. 


  • Capt. Jurvig has listed some common issues that operators are experiencing:
  • Caller hearing nothing
  • Static on the line

Through contingency planning, they are asking the public to do the following to help operators get enough information to dispatch appropriate resources:


  • Use a land line if possible if 9-1-1 is needed
  • Giving a location and nature of the emergency may allow us to get help started faster even if you cannot hear the operator.
  • We have found that if we call the initiating party back we have no issues.
  • It is important for 911 callers to answer calls even if they seem to have a strange Caller ID, e.g. (520) 555-5555 or 911-911-9111.
  • Do not place calls to 911 to "test" their phones as this will only delay efforts to solve the issue.
  •  Proper notification has been made to the wireless provider and efforts are being made to correct the issue.

There is no estimated time frame for repair.
