It may not have been the huge Mega Millions jackpot, but a Spring Hill man's lottery winnings are nothing to sneeze at.
Tennessee Lottery officials presented C.W. Whitson with a check for $2 million on Friday. He won the money through the Play it Again program.
Players can go online and enter the code from their non-winning instant game tickets. They earn points, which can be used to shop for items in the Lottery's VIP store.
A few times a year, the Lottery has a drawing for the top prize in some games.
That's how Whitson won his $2 million. But he almost missed the call.
"I had just laid down to stretch my back, which I have to do three or four times a day," said Whitson. "My cell phone rang. I thought ‘I'm not expecting a call.' It rang a couple of times and then the home phone rang. Then shortly after that, the cell phone rang again and then the home phone rang again and I thought ‘That might be important.' So I got up and saw Tennessee Education and I called right away."
This isn't Whitson's first big win. He won $1 million four years ago in an instant game.
Whitson has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He said they might get a nickel or two. He said his wife doesn't like her car, so that will probably be the first big purchase.
