Baylor's McHugh sets junior national swimming record

GREENSBORO, NC (Baylor School) -- Baylor senior Sam McHugh set a new Junior National record while winning the 200-yard butterfly event at the 2013 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center over the weekend.

McHugh won the event in 1:43.64, breaking the 2010 record set by William Hamilton of Great Lakes. The Junior National title is McHugh's first.

Throughout the three-day competition, McHugh had several top eight swims, placing third in the 400 yard IM, fifth in the 200 IM, and seventh in the 500 freestyle. He was the third highest individual point scorers.

McHugh also teamed with Luke Kaliszak, Chandler Hinson, and Christian Selby for a third place in the 4 x 50 yard freestyle relay. The 4 x 100 yard free relay of Selby, Hinson, Dustin Tynes, and McHugh finished ninth overall in the event.
