The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation searched the home of a former state employee Friday night.
According to TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm, the agency is examining a possible case of information theft.
Former Treasury Department employee Steven Hunter, 24, gathered the personal information of about 6,000 state and Metro workers and sent it to his personal email account, according to Helm.
Among the data collected were names, birth dates, social security numbers and home addresses.
During Friday's search, TBI agents seized computers from Hunter's home in Hermitage.
No charges were filed. The District Attorney General will review the case after the TBI completes its investigation.
