TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The man accused of imprisoning three girls, Fernando Richter, was a suicide risk because of comments he made, according to court documents obtained by Tucson News Now.

Because of those suicidal comments, corrections officers became concerned when Richter started covering the windows in his cell with wet paper towels at the Pima County Jail on Sunday.

According to the documents, officers asked Richter to remove the papers but he refused. When authorities entered his cell, Richter grabbed an officer's uniform and tried pulling the officer into his cell. Other officers then rushed in and handcuffed Richter.

Authorities say Richter is now under constant supervision because of his actions. According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, Richter is allowed out of his room for an hour a day. Whenever he is allowed out, he has to be cuffed behind the back and there always has to be two corrections officers with him.

Fernando and his wife, Sophia Richter, are due in court Friday for arraignment at Pima County Superior Court. The couple is accused of kidnapping and child abuse. Tucson Police allege the Richter's imprisoned Sophia's three daughters in filthy conditions at their midtown home.
