Rain all day; clearing, cooler tomorrow, and more rain Sunday

Posted: Updated:

Good Friday!  PERFECT day for the umbrella that's always in the back of my car to mysteriously disappear.

Rain showers will last on and off through the morning with the occasional flash of lightning.  Temps have been cooling a bit through the overnight.  We went from 70 to 61 in about an hour.  Behind the front, at the same time, it was 36 degrees in Nashville.

This afternoon, the rain will be a bit heavier and more persistent as the front begins to move through.  Rainfall amounts today will range from 1"to 2".

Late tonight, the rain will begin to taper off, and cool, dry air will settle in (at least for a day).  When you wake up Saturday morning, you will see some clouds, and the low will have dropped to a jacket-worthy 40 degrees, but as we progress through the day, we will actually see some sunshine mix in with the clouds, and it will be cool and breezy with highs in the mid 40s and winds from the north at 10-15 mph.

This dry spell will be short-lived.  Sunday, the rain will lift back into the Tennessee Valley and stay with us through Monday.  This will add another 2+" of rain to the total, and flooding will be something we need to look out for heading into next week.  It is fortunate that we have a day of drying to temper things a bit Saturday, but that is still a lot of rain in a fairly short period of time.

Tuesday we MIGHT see a brief time of mixed precipitation in the early morning as temps drop into the mid 30s, but nothing will stick and it will not last long if it happens at all.  Most of Tuesday will be dedicated to cool, dry air settling in.  The high Tuesday will be in the mid 40s, then we will drop into the upper 20s Tuesday night.
