SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Authorities are investigating the cause of a single vehicle rollover that left a San Tan Valley woman in critical condition.

Officials said a 28-year-old woman was thrown from her car Tuesday evening after it rolled on N. Ironwood Drive, north of McCormick Road.

The woman was unconscious and had severe head trauma but was breathing, according to Sheriff Paul Babeu. Medical personnel treated her and took her by air ambulance to Scottsdale Osborne Hospital, where she remains with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives determined the driver started to drift off the roadway and overcorrected, causing her to lose control of the car, which then spun and rolled down the dirt shoulder embankment.

Police said she did not wear a seatbelt. The investigation is ongoing and authorities said speed, alcohol or drug impairment do not appear to be factors in the rollover.
