A dad is shot while waiting to pick up his child at a school on Cleveland's east side.

The shooting happened on Monday around 3:30 p.m. at the Citizens Academy School at 10118 Hampden Avenue. The victim and his wife were waiting in the car line for the students to be dismissed.

Cleveland Police Officers say the suspect, an unknown male, jumped in the backseat, pointed a gun at the couple and demanded their cell phones.

The wife handed over her phone, the husband did not.

The suspect then shot the husband, exited the car and fled northbound on East 102nd Street.

The wife drove her husband to the 3rd district where officers called EMS and the victim was transported to MetroHealth Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The victim has been id'd as Elliot Miller. He is a Cleveland Muni Court bailiff who was hired in July 2006. Co-workers tell 19 Action News they are stunned by news of the shooting.

The suspect was wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans and a black knit cap with rhinestones on it.   He had a grey/black semi-automatic handgun.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to please call Crime Stoppers.  Callers can remain anonymous.
