There's really no delicate way to say this … but sometimes, red sauce causes heartburn. The addition of red wine makes it not only delicious, but cuts the acidity and makes this wonderful AND enjoyable!
AIMEE FORTNEY'S EASY PASTA SAUCE
1 Tablespoon olive oil; or enough to coat the bottom of your pan for the meat mixture
1 pound ground turkey (you may use beef, pork, turkey, etc.)
1 pound Italian pork sausage
1 Tablespoon olive oil; or enough to coat the bottom of your pan for the onion, garlic mixture
1/2 large white onion, chopped finely
2 cloves garlic, minced
dash of salt
1 large can crushed tomatoes (28 ounce)
1 can tomato sauce (15 ounce)
1 can tomato paste (6 ounce)
1 cup red wine (I used Black Box Cabernet Sauvignon)
1 1/2 Tablespoons Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon Oregano
1 Tablespoon Basil
Heat olive oil in a large pan. Add and cook ground turkey and sausage in a large pan. Drain and set aside. Add more olive oil, then the onion and garlic, and a dash of salt. Cook until onions appear translucent, then add the mushrooms. Cook on medium low heat, and then add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, wine and seasonings. (I never actually measure the seasonings, but listed the above amounts for your starting point. Taste as you go, and adjust to your taste.) Once combined, add the meat mixture, and cook on medium low heat, until heated through.
