More stores planning to open on Thanksgiving Day

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Thousands of people will be bundling up on Thursday to get a jump start on their holiday shopping. More stores than ever are opening on Thanksgiving Day this year, and shoppers are getting their plans ready.

Macy's stores are opening at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving night, which means the local malls will open, too.

"I'm going to be buying a lot of audio products. Anything Dre or Marshall, I'm buying it," said shopper Aaron Rosebud.

"We're gonna get a blender and then going to get shopping done for my daughter," said shopper Kelly May.

Best Buy stores will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Toys R Us will open at 5 p.m. And Walmart Supercenters won't close at all.

The teams at Walmart have gone through special training for the expected crowds.

"We also do some dry runs, some drills to get them ready so that our customers can have a safe, secure shopping environment as they enjoy their Black Friday," said Walmart spokeswoman Dianna Gee.

This year, Walmart is introducing a wrist-band process for early shoppers.

"It's something brand news for us, and what this will do is allow our customers to arrive to the store ahead of time for some of the hot items," Gee said.

But it's not about the opening times, shoppers say. It's the deals they're looking for.

"We look online, and we look in all the coupon books and we come to all the malls and check," said shopper Ellie Humphrey.
