Police: Report of gunman in school was false, teen accused of making call in custody

Posted: Updated:

A Bedford County High School was placed on lockdown Friday morning after reports that a gunman was inside, but no one was ever found.

The Sheriff's Department says it was a false call.

Police responded to Shelbyville Central High School on Eagle Boulevard in just minutes, and the school immediately went into lockdown mode after authorities got the call that a gunman was inside the bathroom there.

Authorities say a 15-year-old who had only been with his foster family for a few days called the Sheriff's Department from his foster dad's phone twice, saying there was a gunman at the school.

The teen is now in custody and is facing charges.

The principal allowed hundreds of concerned parents to pick up their students and many did.

School is back in session after that brief scare.
