LAFOLLETTE, TN (Knox News) -- State authorities this morning seized 50 venomous snakes and cited to court a LaFollette preacher who has appeared on national television demonstrating how snake handling is used in his faith, officials said.

Andrew Hamblin, who has appeared on the National Geographic television show "Snake Salvation", was cited with possession of Class 1 Wildlife, a species inherently dangerous to humans, a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 11 months and 29 days in jail and a $2,500 fine per count, officials said.

According to Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officer Matthew Cameron, he received information that Hamblin had venomous snakes. TWRA authorities from Knox County and Campbell County went to Hamblin's home.

"They knocked on the door and when he answered, they point-blank asked if he had venomous snakes and he admitted he had them at an undisclosed location. When they asked if it was at his church, he said, ‘Yes,' and took them to his church," Cameron said.
