Bulger's Beat: TN man builds tribute to Boston's Fenway Park

ETHRIDGE, TN (WSMV) -

It's been less than a week since the World Series ended, but the celebration is still going for Boston Red Sox fans - even those in Ethridge, TN.

Ricky Davis doesn't eat clam chowder, and his Tennessee accent is not New England quality. But when it comes to baseball, he's all in for Boston.

When his beloved Red Sox started a run toward the World Series last month, he felt the need to build an ode to Fenway Park's famous left field wall: the Green Monster.

"Oct. 2nd is when I started it. It was right at the end of the regular season, and I built it when the playoffs were going on," Davis said. "It was easy to build, and fun."

The spectacle of specifics includes details that baseball fans can appreciate, including a Citgo sign just outside the mini-Green Monster.

If you think his family, a wife and daughter, are opposed to all of this, you would be wrong.

They all helped build it.

"Everybody worked on it, I tell ya. From son-in-laws to my wife and daughter, we even had a little help painting from the grandbabies," Davis said.

All of this in a way is Davis' tribute to his dad, who built the barn still standing on his property.

"I think of him every time I look at it, and he's been gone 20 years," Davis said.

Now it was his turn to build.

"All I know is my grandbabies will be playing on this field long after I'm gone, and they'll always remember their papa built it for them," Davis said.

And the work isn't done. A carefully carved infield is next on the list.

While they just play wiffle ball there now, as the grandchildren grow older, he'll make it big enough to hold real baseball games.
