A man is facing a drug charge after Cowlitz County Sheriff's deputies say he placed a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine in a courthouse X-ray machine.

It happened Tuesday morning at as Steven Campbell, 51, entered the Cowlitz County Hall of Justice Security Checkpoint, deputies said.

According to investigators, Campbell placed the contents of his pockets in a tray so it could be scanned.

The deputy operating the scanner saw Campbell place a 3-inch clear glass pipe with brown residue in the tray, covering it with a piece of paper, deputies said.

The deputy placed Campbell under arrest.

The residue in the pipe tested positive for methamphetamine, investigators told FOX 12.

After being advised of his Miranda Rights, Campbell said he brought the pipe to the courthouse to turn it in, deputies said.

Campbell was coming to the courthouse for a hearing for a prior drug charge and obstructing an officer.

Authorities took Campbell to the jail and booked him on a new possession of methamphetamine charge.
