NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Seth Meyers, head writer at Saturday Night Live and host of Weekend Update, is getting ready to take over the reins of NBC's Late Night, but first he is getting a taste of Music City.

Meyers stopped by Channel 4 on Monday to talk about his new role as host of Late Night, which he begins on NBC in February 2014.

He said spending more than a decade on SNL has prepared him for the rigorous task of hosting a nightly comedy show.

"The longer you're at SNL, the more you realize that Late Night is a place where you can exercise the same muscle. So, in a nice way, it was never something I was dreaming about doing, but now that I'm doing it, I couldn't be more excited," Meyers said.

Outside SNL, Meyers hosted the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner in 2011, where his comedy subjects included businessman Donald Trump.

"A thing [SNL creator and executive producer] Lorne Michaels has instilled in me, that I believe to be true, is you don't tell a joke about somebody unless you feel they deserved it, and you don't tell it about them unless you think it's fair. And there's nothing I said that night I wish I could take back. I felt good about all of it," Meyers said.

Meyers is recently married, and, as many people in Nashville know, there seems to always be a local connection.

"Brad Paisley played at our wedding. And I'm so happy that Brad's happily married, because otherwise, if he had shown up, my wife would've left with him on the first plane out. It was great. It was a surprise for her, and I'm happy he was able to come," Meyers said.

Meyers said his Nashville tour continues this week when he and his wife will attend the CMA Awards at Bridgestone Arena.

Meyers begins hosting duties on Late Night on Feb. 24, 2014 after the Winter Olympics on NBC.
