BRADLEY COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

A 9-year-old girl is recovering after she was hit by a car in Bradley County Sunday afternoon.

THP says the girl got a drink from a corner market at the intersection of Spring Place Road and Hughes Lake Road around 2 p.m.

She went to cross the street to return to family. She waited for a car to pass and then didn't look the other way before crossing Highway 74.

"In the video you can see the little girl come out to the edge of the roadway, look to the right, look to the left. A vehicle passed her going toward the state line. As soon as the vehicle passed her she took off across the road," says Tennessee State Trooper Carey Hixson.

THP's Critical Incident Response Team rushed to the scene. The girl was taken to Erlanger Hospital. Her injuries include a broken femur, bruised kidney, and scraped hip.

No charges are expected against the driver at this time. Hixson says they believe the girl didn't see the jeep due to the other car passing the investigation is ongoing.

The store clerk said the young girl frequented the store often, typically without an adult.
