Boot Campaign supports veterans and their families
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
This Veterans Day, you can show your appreciation for the men and women who've served our country by walking in their shoes, in a manner of speaking.
The Boot Campaign, a national military nonprofit that tries to inspire patriotism in all Americans, will actually get you a pair of your very own combat boots.
From every pair of boots sold, $50 goes to assistance programs for military members and their families.
"I think there's patriotism in all of us. Buying boots and wearing boots is just a great way to show that patriotism. It's a way of waving a new flag, wearing a new yellow bracelet, walk a mile in their shoes," said Danielle Zoph, with the Boot Campaign.
"What it does is it starts a conversation. 'Why you wearing those?' 'What's that about?' And that's how it gets going, and that's how people learn about what we're doing all around," said Zachary Bell, with Courage Beyond.
On Sunday, Nov. 10, the organization is hosting its Boot Run in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Money will be donated to the group's partner charity, Courage Beyond, which provides free mental health services to all military members and their families.
The 5K walk and run will be at the Meridian Center Cool Springs in Franklin.
It begins at 4 p.m., and participants can wear boots or tennis shoes.
