Notre Dame routs Liberty in state quarterfinals
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WRCB) -- The site may have changed, but the result did not for Notre Dame girls soccer.
Austin Nelson scored twice to lead the Irish back to the state semifinals for the eighth time in the last nine years with a 5-0 rout of Liberty Tech in Wednesday's quarterfinals. The match was the first played in the TSSAA tournament's new home in Murfreesboro after 17 years in Chattanooga.
Emma Higgins, Hannah Dearing and Courtney Boyd also scored for Notre Dame, which is chasing its third state title. The Irish will play Knoxville Catholic Thursday at 3:30 p.m. ET in the Final Four. Catholic advanced with an 8-0 rout of Fairview in another quarterfinal.
Notre Dame led 2-0 at intermission after first-half goals by Nelson and Higgins. The rest of the damage was done during a three-minute stretch early in the second half when Nelson, Boyd and Dearing all recorded tallies between the 47th and 50th minute of the match.
The Irish avenge a quarterfinal loss in last year's tournament, which snapped a seven-year run of advancing to the semifinals.
CAK rallies to beat CCS in A/AA state quarterfinals
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Christian Academy of Knoxville scored twice in the second half to erase an early deficit and eliminate Chattanooga Christian from the TSSAA state soccer championships with a 2-1 win in the Class A/AA state quarterfinals Wednesday night.
Beata Brock gave the Lady Chargers a 1-0 first-half lead on a goal in the 14th minute, but it was the only tally CCS could muster on the night. Hannah Schoutko and Cori Crocker netted second-half goals to push the Lady Warriors into Thursday's state semifinals against CPA.
