ECSO to hold sex offenders during Halloween

Posted: Updated:

Registered sex offenders on probation in Effingham County will be spending their Halloween at the sheriff's office.

David Ehsanipoor, Effingham County Sheriff's Office spokesman, says about 50 offenders have been asked to report to the sheriff's office from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Ehsanipoor said the sheriff's office has been requiring the offenders on probation to report to the sheriff's office for several years now.

"We want to give parents some peace of mind and reduce the chance of something bad happening," says Ehsanipoor.

This year, the offenders will not be allowed to bring magazines, books or computers.

"We had problems with some of them looking at pornography," Ehsanipoor said in a statement.

The Effingham Co. Sherriff's Office has provided the following tips for Halloween night:

  • Dress children in brightly-colored clothing and reflective material if out after dark
  • Don't let children wear masks that limit visibility
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times
  • Never let children enter a strangers house
  • Only take children to well-lighted neighborhoods they know
  • Pedestrians should not walk in the roadway, especially after dark
  • Adults should inspect all candy or treats prior to allowing children to eat them

Any suspicious activity should be reported to the Sherriff's Office at 912.754.3449. For any emergency/criminal activity in progress, call 9-1-1.
