Cleveland holds back Ooltewah to clinch share of 5-AAA Title

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WRCB) -- "Leave No Doubt" is the theme of 2013 for the Cleveland Blue Raiders. They left no doubt by holding off Ooltewah 26-21 to clinch at least a share of the 5-AAA District title.

The momentum shifted towards Cleveland after a goal line stand and the game ending with a goal line stand.

Cleveland fumbled their first offensive snap and two plays later Desmond Pittman put the Owls up 7-0.

Down 7-3 in the second quarter the Blue Raiders stuffed the Owls on fourth-and-goal from the one. Three plays later Cleveland quarterback Austin Herink let it fly. A perfectly placed 94-yard Touchdown pass in stride to Tyler Davis to give Cleveland a 10-7 lead.

A lead they never gave up.

Cleveland led 26-7 in the third quarter, though Ooltewah stormed back to pull within 26-21.

With under two minutes Brody Binder drove the Owls down the field to the eight yard line with five seconds left.

Once again the Cleveland defense stood firm, Binder was flushed out of the pocket and forced to throw off target and out of the end zone.

Cleveland finishes the regular season 7-3 overall and 5-1 in 5-AAA District play.

Ooltewah (7-2, 4-1) will close out the season at McMinn County on November 1st.

If Ooltewah and East Hamilton (vs. Bradley Central) both lose, then Cleveland will claim sole possession of the 5-AAA district championship.
