TRENTON, Ga. (WRCB-DT) - With two competitions in the fall and a trip to New York City planned for the spring, safe to say it is a big year for the Marching Wolverines of Dade County. To get them ready for the trip, Director Chris Chance has his group doing Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera for their halftime show. It is a performance complete with a boat to ferry trombones to the Phantom's lair, and a homemade throne, on which the Phantom disappears at the end of the show.
Mr. Chance has been at the helm at Dade County for 6 years and has seen his group grow from 36 students to 88 marchers, this year. And he says this is a young, hard-working group of kids, which promises more great performances in the years ahead.
The trip with Fine Arts Department to the Big Apple is not the only massive undertaking for the students, this year. They are also working to replace their now 19 year old uniforms. This is going to be an expensive proposition! The group has already raised $15,000, but they need a lot more. If you would like to help, donations can be made through the Dade County High School Band's website. Also, citrus sales just ended, but garbage bag sales begin the last week in January.
Our thanks to Mr. Chance and Dade County's marching Wolverines, your Band of the Week!
