Owner searching for runaway elk in Williamson County

Posted: Updated:

Wild elk haven't lived in Middle Tennessee for decades, but three elk are now roaming free in Williamson County after they went missing from a nearby farm.

The elk belong to country music singer Bobby Pinson, who is pleading with the public not to shoot the animals.

Pinson said he's been raising the elk since they were young and they managed to get out of his fenced property this summer. He thought they were gone for good until people recently started reported seeing them last weekend.

He even has trained professionals out looking for the elk.

"Where people can be of help to us is by contacting us. We have a Facebook page set up called 'Don't Shoot Our Elk' that will allow them to give us a detailed description of where they saw them," Pinson said.

Pinson said they are checking the Facebook page for tips so they can then go look in those areas for the animals. He said he believes the elk are somewhere between Thompson's Station and Burwood along Highway 840.
