Building at Vanderbilt evacuated due to suspicious envelope

Posted: Updated:

Kirkland Hall on Vanderbilt University's campus was evacuated Wednesday morning because of a suspicious envelope.

The business-sized envelope was found taped to an administration building by a security officer who was making rounds at 7:41 a.m.

The handwritten message on the outside was not deemed to be suspicious, but university officials will not comment on the nature of it. They say it was not addressed to a particular person.

Metro Nashville's hazmat team came to search the building and examine the envelope. It was not determined to be a serious threat. A K-9 team also swept the building.

The building was locked down until about 9:30 a.m. when it was reopened.
