NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive confirmed in a news conference Tuesday morning that Nashville will host 12 consecutive SEC Basketball Championships.

This includes nine men's and three women's tournaments and will begin in 2015.

The men's tournament will be played at Bridgestone Arena from 2015 to 2017, 2019 to 2021 and 2023 to 2025, and the women's tournament will be held in 2018, 2022 and 2026.

The move comes after Nashville had already been awarded the 2015, 2016 and 2019 men's tournaments.

Bridgestone Arena has hosted the SEC Basketball Championship nine times, including the men's tournament in 2001, 2006, 2010 and 2013. The arena has hosted the women's tournament in 2002, 2004, 2008, 2011 and 2012.

"Nashville has long been a valued partner of the Southeastern Conference and we are pleased to establish this long-term agreement that will benefit our men's and women's basketball tournaments," Slive said in a news release. "Nashville, as a proven host, provides SEC teams and fans with a wonderful experience."

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean says the city is proud to have been selected.

"Whenever the tournament is in town, our entire downtown is energized. Our hotels, restaurants and the honkytonks on Lower Broadway all benefit from the thousands of visitors that the tournament draws, and tournament visitors benefit from the wonderful food, music and hospitality Nashville has to offer," Dean said in a news release. "The tournaments are going to be a great experience for the fans and a great win for our tourism industry."'

According to the Nashville Sports Council, men's tournaments have made a $56 million direct economic impact in Nashville. Women's tournaments have produced $35 million.

All of the tournament games will be televised on the SEC Network, ESPN or ABC.
