Investigation continues into identity of skeletal remains

Metro police said an investigation continues in Antioch after human remains were found behind a vacant Target on Saturday afternoon.

Police got called out to the scene near Cane Ridge and Bell roads around noon shortly after a mowing crew discovered the remains.

Investigators believe the remains are those of a 45-year-old Nashville man who, investigators have been told, may have died from a heroin overdose.

The medical examiner's office is working to confirm the person's identity.

Police were told by those who knew the man that he is believed to have died there sometime in August.

A forensics team from Middle Tennessee State University spent Sunday morning combing the area for more clues.

Police said the circumstances of the death, including how he got to the field behind the closed store, remain under investigation.
