Band of the Week: Lookout Valley

Posted: Updated:

Big things are happening at Lookout Valley Middle High! When Sara Daniels took over as Director of Bands last year, they had 5 students in their band. Under her leadership, the Band of Gold has better than tripled to 19! And with 20 players in 6th grade right now, Mrs. Daniels says the whole community can expect big things in the future.

But, it's not just about the numbers. Mrs. Daniels says these kids have really stolen her heart, this year. They meet every challenge she posts in front of them, and that is a great accomplishment, as many are only second year players. She says she so appreciates their Band Parents for their support of the group, and the support of an understanding Principal who is a former Band Director, himself!

The Band of Gold is going to wait until their numbers grow a bit before they head to marching competitions, but they are playing every home and away game, this season. To help get them down the road, they are currently involved in a citrus sale, the staple of any good marching band's fund-raising efforts! If you would like to help out and get some great fruit in time for the holidays, email Mrs. Daniels for purchase details through the school website. Orders are due 10/16/2013.

They have a show full of music for all ages during half-time this year! Called "Rock of Ages," it features Piano Man and We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel. Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze, Don't Stop Believing by Journey and closes with the Aerosmith classic, Dream On.

Our thank to this great group of youngsters! We wish the Lookout Valley High School huge successes in the future. Thanks for being our Band of the Week!
