Winning lottery ticket is a first for local gas station

Posted: Updated:

It's been two days since a North Georgia gas station manager told a local woman that she won the lottery for the third time.

Laura Mullis of Chickamauga won a $142,908 playing Georgia's Fantasy 5 from the October 4th drawing.

Store manager, Vanessa Cochran says this is the first time they've ever had a winner from their location.

She tells me they sell a large amount of lottery tickets every day and were excited to find out the winning ticket came from their store.

Cochran says Mullis, who is a regular customer, came in asking for her ticket to be checked because she believed she had the winning numbers; and she was right.

"She was very excited. She was out of breath and she kept asking ‘are you sure, are you sure' and we were sure, we checked it. It was a really great experience," said Cochran.

Cochran said it was very nerve-wrecking to hold the winning ticket knowing its worth.
She said she hopes the winning ticket will bring more people into the store to buy them.

Last year the store raised over $100,000 for the hope lottery scholarship fund.
